Surgery DeBrief

Well, I’m home now. Here’s the recap:

1. Surgery was 10.5 hours, and Dr. Pelzer feels very positive about the results. We exceeded the high end of his expectations.

2. My head feels fine, but it appears I have a frozen shoulder. I am working with the doctors to make sure my shoulder is included in my treatment plan.

3. The craniotomy recovery has a very significant effect on my endurance, which basically means I sleep most of the day.

4. I am really not in the mood for visitors.

5. I am so thankful for all of the support  received thus far. Many different people have occupied seperate but necessary roles in providing mental and emotional support. Thank you.

6. I just learned today that my Uncle Mike has passed away. Our prayers go out to everyone, and we are going to do everything we can to provide support. A wonderful example has been set for us, and we will do our best to live up to the support that we have received.

7. Marines: the Petersens need our support. Standby for word on what we can do to help them. Here’s Sgt Petersen’s (Corey) blog: www.welovecorey.blogspot.com

  2. So glad to hear you are home! We are watching the Super Bowl…we are terribly outnumbered by the Payton Manning/Colts fans but Dan is making up for our lack of numbers with a staggering amount of yelling, heckling, mocking, etc…Chicago lives in TN. Go Bears & Go Eddy!!! love ya Jill & Dan

  4. I am glad you are home and sorry that you may have seen the game. Twice in one month and the games had eerie similarities I can't take this kind of crap.
If we can help the Petersens please let us know, Team Schrank has a wide reach.

  6. What a week of fun times and sad times. So glad that the operation went well and you sure are s great inspiration. Hope the shoulder gets better soon.

At about 6:15 last Wednesday morn we were gathered around Uncle Mike's bed and said the rosary for both of you. Our prayers were answered with a successful surgery and a peaceful end for Uncle Mike. He said he was going home.

I can feel your support. Just take care and we will get together soon. I can make more saurkraut and noodles. You know the wine your dad used to enjoy drinking with us was a step above that MSR but the blue martini was great. Love, Aunt Joan

  7. Push myself too hard? I'm healed. I woke up this morning feeling like a thousand bucks…on my way to a million and much better than the $1.25 that you guys saw last.

  8. So, looks like we'll see you tonight. Well, you can't run forever…I'll have that chicken pot pie that I threatened you with last week. :)

  9. At least the pie will stay frozen in the car. See you soon – everyone at work has been asking about you. You have big fans at Abbott.

  10. Congratulations SSgt Schrank. You sound like you are in good spirits. As I said before Rob and I lit a candle for you at church yesterday and we would like to come see you before he returns to North Carolina.

  11. Ed,

I am so excited that you are home and recovering. I have thought about and prayed about you often this whole week. I would officially like to add the Virgin Mary to Team Schrank. She was deffinately praying for you. (ps – i can't spell)

I remember when you hurt your shoulder that day playing football in my yard. Very painful. I am sorry to hear that it still bothers you after all this time. If it is any consolation, my knee still dislocates occationally. I hate that. ah….memories.

God bless you my friend. I am so looking forward to seeing you again soon.

  13. Eddy, I am so happy about the progress that you have made. Shoulder improving, less tired and less fatigued and that never ending "can do" attitude back in full force. I want just a little of that to rub off on me!!!! Peace and have a great check up today. All of the ACC's (soon to be the Immediate Care Centers) are rooting for you. Mom

  14. Well… did I kill you with the pot pie?

At the risk of offending your digestive tract again, I'd like to drop off some food (and/or groceries) on Saturday… let me know if there's a particular time that would be convenient.

And, I'm taking orders (Mom's got chili covered already). I'm no Julia Child, but I'll give anything a try (especially since I won't be eating it! haha) And I've got to do groceries anyway, so help me make the list. I'm way cheaper than Peapod!

    Let me know,
    Joy

  15. Joy makes the best chicken pot pie I have ever had! Between Tuesday dinner, Wednesday breakfast and Wednesday lunch we (I) finshed the whole thing…that crust is pretty darn tasty.

  16. Mom also has chocolate cake covered.
